“To this day I remember a school lesson from when I was about 8 years old. The teacher had brought into the class some indigenous wild plants, one of which was the cuckoo pint (Arum maculatum). I was impressed by two things, firstly that it looked very exotic and secondly the amazing number of common names. My favourite then and now is ‘Kitty-come-down-the-lane-jump-up-and-kiss-me’. Wow!”
