This sculpture of a Green sea turtle was carved from a single piece of sweet chestnut burr and mounted on a black granite base. The plain areas on the shell really gives the incredible patterns within the burr to take centre stage.

I have come across green sea turtles on several occasions when SCUBA diving or snorkelling. They are large, herbivorous marine reptiles that inhabit tropical and subtropical oceans. Known for long migrations and reliance on seagrass meadows, they play vital ecological roles and are protected worldwide due to significant population declines from human impacts.
