About the Sculpture
This stylised birch plywood cormorant sculpture shows how beautiful plywood can be if the right subject is chosen and the material is handled in the correct way. As a result of the versatile nature of plywood, sculptures can be carved to almost any size. Please feel free to contact us to discuss a commission for a larger version of this design. “Cormorants are highly sculptural birds, especially after they have been diving for fish and are standing on dry land, wings reaching out, in order to dry their waterlogged feathers. This more stylised piece also gave me an opportunity to play with the relationship between “figure” and “ground”. A subject that M.C Escher (of whom I’m a big fan) has dealt with in the past to great affect”.
