Frog on a Lily Pad

This video shows the way that I approach  a lot of my wood sculpture. A methodical process of referring to my reference material, selecting areas of wood that I definitely don’t want, marking those areas and then removing those regions with hand tools. I then repeat that process, again and again, until I can see no more wood that needs removing. That is when you know that it is time to stop carving. The finishing process can then start. This involves sanding (if desired), oiling/waxing, and mounting or displaying. All of these processes are covered in detail in the tutorials available to Premium members of my Wood Carving Studio.

22mm number 9 straight gouge
6mm 60 degree straight V-tool
20mm number 1 straight fishtail
6mm number10 straight gouge
20mm number 7 straight fishtail
3mm number 10 straight gouge
Swann Morton number 4 scaplel handle with number 26 blade
Abrasive: grades 180, 240, 320, 400.

Finish Used:
Liberon Finishing oil and Liberon Black Bison fine wax polishing paste (golden pine).
